Screen Glare, UV light and 12 hour days in front of a tiny laptop screen. You don’t need me to tell you that all of these together make for a bad time. One of the things I struggled with when working remotely was migraines mainly caused by all of these.
Eye care is one of the things we definitely forget about when working remotely, it’s a sad truth but I know my vision is a lot worse now than it was even a few years ago. The good news though is that there are a few items you can buy that can make the world of difference for your home office:
What are the best products to look after your eyes when working from home?
To cut to the chase the following are the items I use to help avoid glare and reduce the UV light my eyes take in when working from home:
- Grandeur Black Out Blinds – The best option for reducing the amount of light coming in through your windows.
- Bioluz LED Bulbs – The best option for reducing the amount of halogen light coming into your room whilst being eco friendly
- I-looker for Monitor hoods – particularly good if you can;t avoid screen glare and need a quick option when working remotely.
- Anti glare filters – A great option to reduce the amount of light coming directly from the blue light of your laptop screen.
- Feiyold Anti bluelight glasses – a cheap alternative that you can use anywhere to avoid blue light from affecting your vision.
All of these items will help reduce the amount of bright light that can be hazardous to your vision, so let’s explore each of these and why I recommend them.
Why do I recommend Grandekors black-out blinds?
Black out blinds are a fantastic way of reducing the amount of direct sunlight entering your room. They basically avoid any light coming through your window which can bounce off your laptop screen causing you discomfort.
Black out blinds are also a great investment if you struggle to fall asleep or need to catch up on a day nap.
I recommend Grandekors black out blinds for the following reasons:
They stop 100% of incoming light
a lot of other products out there only offer a limited amount of light blockage meaning you can still be left with light coming through. This is not the case for the Grandeckor.
The honeycomb structure
Honeycomb structures are super helpful in dispersing UV light, meaning any harmful damage cause won;t affect you.
Super easy to install
Let’s be honest, you don;t want to be faffing around when it comes to installing these in your home office. Thankfully they are super easy to manage and install.
A variety of sizes
Every home office is different. I’m sure your window frame will be a different size to mine!, thankfully Grandekors black out blinds come in a variety of styles to ensure you will be covered no matter what.
Why do I recommend Bioluz’ LED bulbs?
I know what you’re thinking… will these even light up your room?!
LED lights can have a huge impact on avoiding screen glare all whilst lighting up your room at the same time.
So why do I recommend Bioluz:
Super efficient
These light bulbs provide the same amount of light as a regular 50 watt lightbulb all whilst using a lot less energy, your energy provider will be jealous of the amount of money you will end up saving!
Eco friendly
For too many years we’ve been using products that are actually doing mother nature more harm than good. The good news is that these bulbs come free of mercury and any other non-recyclable packaging
They go with any office
Let’s face it, sometimes lightbulbs can be eye soars, because Biluz was only formed in 2011 the design is up to scratch meaning they will fit right into your office without you knowing.
Why do I recommend I-Lookers monitor hood?
So I’ll be the first one to admit that these might not be for everyone, I stopped using these a long time ago myself but they were useful when I did use them.
The general idea is that monitor hoods will keep out any sunlight hitting your minutes in a situation where you can;t do anything about the external light ( so if your monitor is pointing towards a window.
So why do I recommend I-Looker:
They have a ton of different sizes and styles
Meaning they should be able to cover your monitor irregardless of it;s size
Super easy to fit
A lot of these devices can be a bit fiddly to set up but the I looker is fully adjustable meaning a quick fit right out of the box
Strong build quality
I never had any problems when I used these, no scratches bumps or anything out of the blue, it was all super easy to clean as well.
Why do I recommend Sightpro Anti-glare filters?
Now we’re talking!
Anti glare filters are a great option for reducing the mount of blue light directly coming out of your screen. When I discovered these at work a few years ago they had a huge impact on me and definitely contributed to me feeling a lot less tired as the day went on…. Although I did have to put up with the odd comment on why my screen looked so dark!
So why do I recommend the Sightpro?
A decent price
So if you’re unable to afford blackout blinds or want a quick alternative to use theme anti-glare filters are for you. The downside is that these usually cost a fair bit but Sight-pros I’ve found to be the best quality at a very reasonable price
Super easy to fit
Other providers I’ve found to be quite fiddly but the Sightpro is super easy to fit, just pop it on and your good to go.
A variety of sizes
Similar to I -looker, sightpro have a huge variety of sizes for the filter meaning you won’t have to worry about it being too big or even worse, cutting your filter down to size.
It doubles up as a privacy screen
so on the days that you’re in the office this can be a great alternative to a privacy screen stopping people from accessing your screen when you are away from your desk.
Why do I recommend Feiyold anti-blue light glasses?
So if any of you reading this are gamers you will likely know all about these. If I could make one single investment into reducing the amount of blue light I take in on a daily basis I would put it down to these glasses.
So why do I recommend Feiyold?
Super affordable
Ray Bans these are not and so for a pretty small investment your ending up with something that can work wonders for your vision
Pretty stylish
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I genuinely think these are pretty cool looking. I mean some blue light reduction glasses can be pretty unsightly ( see what I did there) but these are pretty clean looking and can definitely go with all face shapes… even by cone head.
2 for 1
One of the major reasons I recommend Feyolds glasses is because they come in pairs. If you’re anything like me you’re always losing things so having a spare pair laying around for the same price is a huge plus in my eyes ( okay I’ll stop with the eye puns now)
Low colour distortion
One of the problems eye filters can sometimes have is they distort your screen so have to look through things with weird haze sometimes. This isn;t the case with the Feiyold glasses with a huge reduction in tinting
Stay awake for longer
Finally Feryold promise that their glasses contain anti-digital eye fatigue technology, which is just a fancy way of saying there glasses help avoid any eye strain and tiredness you feel when staring in front of a laptop for hours on end.
What to look out for in eye protection?
So hopefully these products have given you a few items to consider to avoid any eye strain. Now if you decide to go your own way and buy your own it’s important to note that anything you buy has been thoroughly tested and scrutinised. You only have one pair of eyes so make sure any items you get are up to scratch.
Now it’s worth mentioning that probably the best thing you can do though if you are having trouble with your vision is just popping down to your local optician who will be able to give you prescription glasses if need be.
