So lighting is one of the subtle things that most people completely forget about in their home office. To be fair when I first started working remotely it was the same for me but having ambient lighting in your room helps set up clear boundaries between your work and personal life and sets the tone for your office to help you focus during those long 12 hour  working days.

So which lights do I recommend?

  • Lepower Lamp – the best desk lamp on the market place at an affordable price
  • Govee LED Strip Lights – the best lights for ambient lighting in your home office
  • Viewow – Best key light for recording videos/presenting.

Now before you hit add to cart it’s important that I explain why I think these are the best options on the market place so you feel as confident as possible that you are making the right decision

Why do I recommend the Lepower Lamp?

Desk lamps are one of those items that when you have you forget home much you needed them before. I know when If first started working remotely, working 12+ hour days meant that I was getting quite bad eye strain and migraines.

Luckily since I invested in the Lepower this isn’t really the case anymore making it a lot easier to focus on tasks like reading or reporting on dense information.

I recommend the Lepower for a few key reasons:

Benefit  Reason
12 month warranty  Unfortunately most lamps on the internet are manufactured in poor conditions meaning they have a habit of breaking after a few months. This isn’t the case with the Lepower which comes with a free 12 month warranty.
A variety of colours  Every office is different. The last thing you want with a lamp is sticking it out like an eye soar on your desk. Luckily this isn’t the case with the Lepower meaning no matter your awesome ( or questionable) design choices the lap will always suit!
A huge amount of adjustibility  Similarly to the point above where you sit in your home office will be different to everyone else so making sure that your lamp is 100% adjustable for your needs will be huge . I mean  there is no point in buying a lamp if you can’t maneuver it in the right place. With the Lepower this isn’t the case with it being adjustable to almost every angle.
Low energy usage  The Lepower is super versatile when it comes to the types of bulbs you are using meaning it can potentially save you  fair but on your electricity bills which as  we are all far too aware are taken up a fair bit by lighting.

Why do I recommend Govee’s LED light strips?

LED light strips are one of those things that you’re seeing more and more of and with good reason.

In my experience having a home office that is a welcoming place to work from and you actually enjoy being in makes you a lot more productive. Doing something as simple as adding a pop of colour through LED lighting can go a long way.

I recommend Govee then for a few key reasons:

Benefit  Reason
Cut to your design  A huge advancement these trip lights have over other products is that you can cut them to suit your home office. This means you can customize the look specifically for your office whilst not having to worry about having loose lights lying around everywhere
A variety of colours  Unlike other lights, these LEds have a full spectrum of over 16 million colour variations. They are also entirely customizable depending on how you want them to look too.
Sync up with your music  One trick that really helps me focus when working from home is listening to things like ambient music. These LEDs can actually sync up with music to create an atmosphere that allows you to get your work done
Durable LEDs It’s a sad reality but a lot of the lights that are available on the web have poorly made LEDs. Luckily Govee has been in the market for a while and has over 1000 positive reviews of their items meaning you won’t have to worry about the LEDs going bust. I’ve had them myself for about 2 years now and they haven’t failed me in my time using them.

Why do I recommend the Viewow key light?

So I’ll be the first to admit that not every home office will need to have a key light. I mean not every role will require you to record videos or do presentations from home.

That being said if your working from home role is anything like mine ( hello sales) then getting yourself set up with a keylight will definitely add to your presentations and videos.  I recommend Viewow then for a few key reasons:

Benefit  Reason
A variety of colour temperatures  This is important as it means that key light is adjustable depending on what you are doing. A cool light for a work presentation will work very differently to a warm light for a YouTube video.
No battery required  Meaning that you won’t have any ongoing costs of using the lamp, simply plug it in via your USB and your good to go!
Built in phone holder  Let;s be honest, most of us will be doing these videos from our phone and as such you have a built in phone holder that coves the light evenly for you.
Free tripod Finally the light comes with a built in tripod that is fully adjustable meaning you don’t have to spend extra money in getting your light to look right.

What should you look out for when buying office lights?

So hopefully you’ve gone with my recommendations  (seriously I wasted literally hundreds on light that are useless) but if you do decide to go your own way there are a few key things you should look into when buying lights:

  • Make sure they don’t burn to bright; you need to make sure any lights you buy can deal with the bulbs you are using which usually can burn too bright for the lamp itself
  • Make sure they are fully adjustable; there is nothing worse than buying lighting only for it to be inflexible or for you not to move it in a desired direction.
  • Try not to break the bank; lighting is one of those costs that can really add up, heck I know a guy who spent over $1000 on a fancy light. At the end of the day they do the same job. Lighting isn’t office furniture and so it should be affordable and not break the bank.
