Let’s face it, staring in a bland room with no greenery can be tough. A few studies have shown that adding a little bit of green into an office environment can help you feel less stressed with the green color in particular reminding our caveman brand of a simpler time.

Office plants can really boost your mood like they do mine but what are the best? Also do you go natural or artificial? Luckily this blog is dedicated towards remote working and home office sand so I’ve listed my choices below:

My recommendations for home office plants are:

American Plant Exchange Sansevieria – The best live house plant in my opinion which is super easy to maintain and helps remove contaminants. You can get it here.

Nearly Natural Boston Fern – This is the best choice artificial office plant which pretty much goes with any office and looks super natural. You can get it here

So why do I recommend these plants? Unlike other blogs out there I don’t just want to push products to you without explaining why I feel as though these are the best so if you’ll have me, let me show you why I recommend these:

Why do I recommend the American Plant Exchange Sansevieria houseplant?  Natural plants are a great option when working remotely. One of the major benefits they have over artificial plants is some of the environment properties such as reducing the amount of carbon dioxide around you.

There are a few key reasons then why I recommend the Sansevieria:

  • Easy to maintain: A lot of  live plants sadly take a while to maintain, they can be magnets for things like insects and spiders and so having a plant that doesn’t really mess up your office with creepy crawlies is worth it.
  • Better air quality: Nasa has actually recommended Sansevieria as a top plant due to its ability to remove 107 known air pollutants. The plant also releases oxygen through the night unlike other plants.
  • Beautiful design: There is nothing worse than having a plant override the entire look and feel of your office. Not the case with the Sansevieria which looks good in any office. Also it comes with a sleek looking white pot so you won’t have to worry about finding your own.

Once again you can grab Sansevieria here

Why do I recommend the Nearly Natural Boston fern?

So for those of you who want to go down the artificial route or are super allergic to house plants than in my opinion there is now better choice then Nearly Naturals Boston Fern.

There are a few key reasons then why I recommend the Boston fern

  • Realistic look: Sadly a lot of artificial plants just look fake. You can spot them from a mile off and after a while they can get a little ugly. Not the case with the Boston fern which comes with a wicker  basket complete with twing to help the authentic look
  • No maintenance required: The biggest benefit is that there will be no matinee, no watering, no resoling. To clean simply give a quick wipe down. Similar to the Sansevieria the Boston fern won’t attract any bugs either on account of it  being, you know, fake
  • Money back guarantee: If you’re not happy with the fern in any way as always you can return it no problems asked.

What to look out for in an office plant?

So hopefully you’ve taken my suggestions on  board but if you decide to go your own way and look for your own office plant there are a few things you need to look into:

  1. Make sure the plant is right for your office. There’s is nothing worse than getting a plant only to realise your office is too small or it just doesn’t go with your plant
  2. Avoid bugs at all costs. As these plants will be in your home office it’s super important that they avoid the attraction of bugs, ticks and other critters that could  easily get into your electronics.
  3. Low flammability. Some artificial plants have a habit of catching fire or melting if they get near a flame. Make sure the materials used in yours are flame retardant.
  4. Easy to maintain. Finally if you do go down the natural look you want to make sure your plants are easy to maintain. Aim for something you can water once per week and that’s it.
