So one of the things I scoffed at before working from home was a standing desk. I never understood them, and always thought in an office environment they were a little bit pretentious.

Working from home the past few years has definitely changed my mind with standing desks being a focus of my home office when I first started my remote working journey.

Now, most standing desks take a while to set up, and sometimes you have to do things like saw down the tabletop or bend things into place. What’s even worse is some standing desks don’t come with an instruction manual so your left trying to scramble around to find a way to fit a square peg into a circle hole.

What to look out for in a standing desk?
So now that I’ve given my recommendations, you might very well decide to go through what else you should look out for on a desk. Well, we’ve covered some of these already but to summarize:
- They need to have a warranty to cover the electric motors which can damage very easily
- They need to have a large weight capacity limit ( cheaper desks will not be able to hold a lot of weight)
- They need to be adjustable, most people working from home might want a break at some point so they need to be able to sit down.
- They need to be easy to assemble standing desks can be quite fiddly because of a lot of moving parts
- The need to be priced well, it’s an unfortunate statement but with standing desks becoming more popular a lot of companies will try to price you out the market.
- The ability to customize your worktop – a lot of standing desks tabletops are a different design to the frame. If you choose a standing desk your tabletop will likely get damaged well before you frame so you need to ensure your frame has a number of tabletops to go with it.

So why standing desks?
I mean let’s face it normal desks seem to do the job and have done so since they were invented. Why are these becoming more popular?
For anyone working from home, you know as well as I do that getting out and exercising straight after work is a struggle. The amount of times I’ve tried to go to the gym after a day of working from home and just end up sitting on the couch is unreal.
Standing desks for me at least help me keep upright and active as the day goes on. I mean I feel a lot more alert when making calls and just generally get more done.
The world of work is changing, and with more people working remotely than ever before, small things like walking around the office are becoming extinct and so we need a way to try and stay healthy whilst in the comfort of our own homes.
