Monitors bigger than 40 inches typically weigh 7 pounds or 3.2 kilos and can go as heavy as 15.4 pounds or 7kg.
That being said for most home offices, monitors on this size will be unnecessary due to size, and the amount of room needed to place these.
In my experience, it is rare for most people who work from home and use a home office to use a tv as an additional monitor.
What are the weight differences between the same size of computer monitors?
So now we have an idea of the differences in weight between monitors. What about different brands of motors that are the same size?
Most monitors regardless of brand will typically weigh between one and two pounds of each other so long as they are the same size. The weight difference between mon tors of the same size is negligible. For example, a 27inch monitor weighs between 9 and 11 pounds depending on the monitor.
To help explain more I compared three monitors all of which are a typical size for a home office (27inches) all of which came from different brands.
Size | Name | Weight (Pounds) | Weight (Kilos) |
27 inch | Samsung curved | 9.03 pounds | 4.09 kg |

Do old monitors weigh more than new monitors?
Old CRT monitors and TV’s weigh 4 times as much as their LED or LCD counterparts. For example a 27 inch CRT monitor can weigh as much as 40 pounds compared to 9 pounds for a modern HD led/lcd computer monitor
Do computer monitors with larger screens weigh more?
Computer monitors that have larger screens weigh more than computer monitors with smaller screens. The average weight of a small computer screen is 5.49 pounds (2.4kg). The average weight of an extra-large monitor is 18.98 pounds (8.6kg). The larger a monitor is, the more it will weigh
Does the material monitor contribute to weight?
The material monitors are made of will have a small impact on the weight of a computer monitor. If a monitor is made of lightweight aluminium or plastic, it will typically weigh 1-2 pounds less than if it were made of dense steel.
The difference between most materials however will be negligible, with most manufacturers using the same material when constructing their monitors.
Why does computer monitor weight matter?
Computer monitor weight matters mainly as the more lightweight your monitor, the easier it will be to move and adapt to your home office.
With a lot more of us working from home at the moment, it is likely that you will be taking some of your work office equipment home with you, so ensuring that it is all easily transportable is imperative to the success of you working from home.
Understanding computer monitor weigh is also important as heavier monitors might not be suitable for certain office desks that they will be placed on.
To find out my recommendations for office desks check out my recommended desks page here.
Do frameless monitors weigh more?
Frameless monitors will typically weigh around 5-10 pounds more than their framed counterparts. A typical frameless 27inch monitor will weigh 9 pounds 94kg. A typical frameless 27inch monitor will weigh 17 pounds.
That being said the majority of the difference between frameless and framed computer monitors is not likely to be that significant.
